Frequently Asked Questions
Here are just a few of the most common questions I am asked.
Question 1
How can we consult with you these days when making a booking with you ?

I am very content to travel and meet with you in person at a venue of your choice (normally your home or the wedding venue) all without obligation or cost to you. In addition, I am perfectly content to meet over Zoom or Teams if this is more convenient to you. At our first meeting I can bring some sample wedding photo albums all completed with my own images from previous clients to show you. We can also discuss specific requirements you might have, and the venue, and timings, etc, so that we both know generally the structure of the day.
Question 2
Can we view our Wedding Photos online, and can we download and share them ?

Yes you will be able to view your photos online within 3 days of the shoot. As soon as the event is over, I will get to work by selecting and editing the photos for you. I will then send you a secure and private link to your personalised gallery that you simply click on to access all the photos. From there, you can download and share with friends and family whichever photos you wish. All part of the package. No additional cost. If you are content to do so, you can forward on the same link that I send to you to your relatives, friends, etc, so that they can also view your wedding day on line , and print if they want.
Question 3
Can you supply a luxury Wedding Photo Album ?

Yes of course. You will be able to view online all of your wedding photos within days of the event. From there, you can mark your favourite 60 or so images and I will then start to build your Wedding Album. There is also an opportunity to pick your 6 favourite images and use those to be spread right across both pages of the album in the "Layflat" style shown in the photos.

Question 4
Question 5
Question 6
Do we need to provide you with food ?

No, or course not. I will provide my own food and refreshments throughout the day. The last thing you need is to be worrying about additional costs (and sometimes extremely high costs!) for things like additional meals for the Photographer. When the main food gets underway and everyone starts to eat, I normally slip away while guests enjoy their food. This gives me the time to recharge batteries, change cards, clean lenses, etc.
How much of the Wedding will you cover?

I normally cover the whole day, and most of the evening, or at least until the main celebrations are over and I feel that I have everything covered. Normally this would be after the cutting of the cake, and the first dance for example. I never leave the ceremony without checking with you first. Couples wishing to consider me for only part days should contact me to discuss this. I normally have a very clear itinerary and timescales all agreed at our consultation period so we both know what to expect.
Do you only cover the Surrey area ?
No, I will travel wherever is necessary. I have covered weddings in Sussex, Essex, Northamptonshire, Kent, Hampshire, and London.. I have also travelled to Italy to photograph weddings and France to photograph cycling events. Make contact with me on the contacts page and let me know if you would like me to travel further than local Boroughs and I can discuss this with you further.

Question 7
Question 8
Question 9
Do you edit the photos as part of the payment deal, or do we pay extra?

I do all the editing of all the photos before they are handed over to you, or posted onto your personal on-line gallery. The editing that I carry out will include fairly straightforward adjustments to exposure if necessary, or white balance correction if I think it looks better slightly warmer (or cooler) for example. I do not carry out extensive 'Photo-shopping' such as removing people, or adding people to photographs, or adjusting body shapes or features for example. That can be very complex, time consuming, and can often look unnatural. NB: consider question 10
How long have you been working as a professional photographer?

I have been photographing weddings for over 17 years. I have always had other interests in photography since the age of about 15. I sold my first photograph to a greetings card company at the age of 16 many years ago!. Generally speaking I have mainly stuck to travel, landscape, and sport photography photographing professional cycling events, until I was asked if I would do a wedding for a wonderful couple that I knew. And so it began .......... I do also undertake portraits for families or couples, engagement shoots, and some commercial work mainly centred around London and the transport industry.
Can we see some completed wedding photo albums, and are all the shots yours?
Yes and Yes. I can bring some photo albums along with me when we meet for an initial consultation. and EVERY photo is always one that I have taken. I have some full wedding albums of the finest quality, and also some miniature duplicates that I could show you. They really are the most desirable and value for money products that I deal with. The miniature albums are exact duplicates of the main album and they make wonderful gifts to relatives, or Bridesmaids, etc. I can discuss this with you further when we meet.

Question 10
Question 11
Question 12
What 'Style' of photography do you offer?

So the straight answer to this often asked question is basically any style that you prefer. Here's how it works; at the wedding day I will capture the whole event all the way through from the Bride and Groom getting ready all the way to the evening dancing. When the collection of images is complete, I will then go about editing all the images in the style that you have asked for, whether it is Black and White, Fine Art, Candid, Formal, Reportage, and so on. Take a look at the Home / Gallery page and see for yourself that there are a mixture of styles going on throughout the gallery. So any style you prefer is the answer. Importantly, I am very discreet and respectful how I go about capturing the images all day. You will hardly know I am there.
Can we supply you with a list of 'must have' photos and special requests?

Yes please. That makes everything crystal clear to both you and to me. I normally cover this at our very first meeting if you would be able to put something together such a list for me to follow. I can then often use the assistance of one of the Ushers when the time comes to help me identify those on the list and get people moving around and ready for the shot. Quite often, and as soon as the ceremony is over, I find that the Bride and Groom would like some more formal family shots with various people such as Bridesmaids, Grans and Grandads, In-Laws, etc, so I am fully experienced with this.
Can you work alongside a Video crew that we have already booked?
Yes I can. You may have already noted from the 'Pricing' tab above that I can provide my own video services to clients, so I am fully aware of all the intricacies involved. If you have already booked your video crew then we don't need to discuss this very much. The way it works is that we both spend the day respecting each others goals and the available space there is for both us to get the shots / video that we need. There will be times that the videographer will have to accept that I might need to move about a bit to get a certain angle or shot, but generally speaking, we will both continually liaise with each other throughout the day. I fully respect how important (and costly!) the video service will be to you.

Question 15
What happens if you become ill on the day or cannot attend our wedding?

This has never happened to me in the last seventeen years since I started doing this. However.....you are right to ask. I have a number of suppliers and colleagues in the industry such as Bridal Hair and Make Up, Flower Suppliers, Videographers and Photographers. So there would always be someone available to take over from me in the worst case scenario that I became ill. I am also fully insured so that should give you some confidence that I operate professionally and that you also have a legal professional back up system of support to rely on if necessary. It is all explained in greater detail in the contract that we would sign when making a firm booking. I should add that I have never, ever, had an unhappy client for any reason. Check out my reviews that just a few of my clients have left me.
Why don't you use mirrorless cameras as your main gear set up?

There are a number of reasons. Firstly, the time is not right for me to spend 15k upwards to just replace my amazing DSLR set up and lenses simply to appear trendy. That obviously saves me then having to pass the cost onto the clients, which in turn enables me to keep pricing and packages at a very reasonable rate. In addition, from a technical point of view, it is a fact that DSLR's have a considerably longer battery life that mirrorless. I can shoot over two thousand shots on my current set up before I need to change a battery instead of four hundred on a mirrorless. And both my DSLR's from Nikon can operate in silent shooting mode. So for me right now, it is a no-brainer, keep my award winning DSLR's for now.
How does the Hybrid Package work where you are offering stills and video?
In essence I will be both the photographer and the videographer. However, to be clear, you will be booking primarily the photo package and I will be concentrating mainly on the photographic element of the package. Due to the advance in equipment these days, it is possible to shoot extremely high quality video in normal stills cameras. So with the Hybrid Package I will be taking a number of short clips throughout the day with my normal camera and will then edit this into a 5 minute movie with music and possibly some audio of the ceremony if this is practically possible. So you will receive all your high quality images and also a short movie that is ideal for social media, sharing, and quick playback.
